Words are important, and telling your significant other that you love them is a pillar of a good relationship. But as one Imgur user recently proved, the people we love show us how important we are to them in more ways than one, if only we care to look.
“My dad passed away on February 26th at the age of 51 from a ruptured artery,” Imgur user ButAnywayHeresWonderwall wrote of Mason, his dad. “He made this workbench for my mom, Becca, when she got into metal engraving.”
“He was technically my step dad, but being as how I’ve never met my biological father, he was the only and best father I had,” he added.
A few months after his father’s untimely passing, his grieving son noticed that one of the legs of his mother’s workbench broke.

Mason was a carpenter, and he taught his son everything he knew about the trade. Following a technique his father taught him, he took the legs off to reinforce and secure them with bolts. As soon as he flipped the table over, he noticed something scribbled on the underside of the bench.
It was a love letter Mason had written before he passed away. When his son read the note, he was blown away. The inscription reads:
I love you Becca.
Whatever day this is, I hope it’s a good one. God truly answered my prayers the day he gave me you. I know that these days are the best I’ll ever have, and I’m glad you’re in them.
I’m not sure if you’ll ever see this, but if you do, just know that I love you very much. If there is one thing I want in life, it is to be as good to you as you are to me. If I can do that, I’ll be the happiest man alive.
I love you, beautiful wife.
— Mason
He showed the secret message to his mom right away, and it left her in tears. The entire family was touched by the discovery of Mason’s loving note.

In an effort to preserve the inscription, Mason’s son removed the two planks from the bench and mounted them in a frame.
Mason’s son says the family is holding up in the wake of his father’s passing, and that the message found under the table proved to be a bittersweet discovery.
Of his parents, he simply said, “I have never seen two people so much in love.”
