In Hawaii’s Big Island, lava and hazardous fumes continue to gush four days after the Kilauea volcano erupted on May 4, following a magnitude 6.9 earthquake.

Shocking footage taken in Leilani Estates, one of the areas hit the hardest by the devastation, shows lava flowing and consuming a car parked on the side of the road.

In the time-lapse video, lava can be seen emerging from the underbrush, crawling towards the road and ultimately engorging the vehicle and everything else in its path.

According to the Hawaii Civil Defense, 35 structures—26 of which are residential properties—have been destroyed thus far, and a total of 12 fissures have formed.

As of today, the lava has covered around nine acres of land in the Leilani Estates region. Lava and fumes continue to gush from the ground, as several new fissures have been opened up by earthquakes.

Around 1,700 residents in the area are scheduled to be evacuated as of Sunday night.
