So much sacrifice goes into being a soldier. To be able to see in person just how much they’re giving up for our freedom is heartbreaking.
Brooks Lindsey of Brandon, Mississippi, was on his way home from Kuwait when his layover flight got delayed.
He was stuck in a Dallas airport at the exact time his wife, Haley Lindsey, was giving birth to their daughter Millie.

“Without that delay Brooks would have been in the air and unable to FaceTime,” his wife Haley said in an essay posted online.
“My mother-in-law secretly FaceTimed Brooks and shoved the phone in the front of her shirt,” she wrote. “When I began to push, the doctor asked what she was doing, and she showed my doctor Brooks’ face on the screen and she realized what was going on.”
Despite his physical absence, Haley said her husband wasn’t lacking in emotional support. He was encouraging her with every push, wincing and saying “wow”.

Love What Matters
But just as the baby was coming out, Brooks said they were being called to board the flight.
“All I remember was my doctor screaming, ‘Don’t let him board the flight! She’s here! She’s here!’” Haley Lindsey wrote. “So, the airport personnel let him sit there and watch till it was over!”
A fellow traveller named Tracy Dover witnessed the beautiful scene unfold inside the airport. Posting a video of the moment on Facebook, she said: “He had to watch the birth of his daughter on FaceTime. He was crying and our hearts were breaking.”
“When we heard the baby cry, we all rejoiced for him,” she added. “I never want us to forget about our soldiers who serve us every day and the sacrifices they make.”
