Unbelievable Timelapse Of Storm Dumping Tonnes Of Water Into Alpine Lake

An amateur filmmaker from Carinthia, Austria just happened to be at the right place, at the right time to have captured an incredible spectacle: a storm dumping tonnes of water into an Alpine lake.

Peter Maier, 27, was on a hotel balcony when he accidentally filmed this weather anomaly—called a wet microburst—during his recent stay at the Lake Millsatt in Austria.

He even described the moment perfectly: a ‘tsunami from heaven’.

Peter works as a fitter in the energy industry in Basel, but is a keen mountaineer who always carries five or six cameras with him whenever he goes on adventures in case he encounters beautiful moments like this one.

He posted a timelapse video of the incident to his Facebook page with the caption: “One can’t plan on capturing such images. It was a lucky shot.”

The once-in-a-lifetime recording showed a torrent of rain covering the hills to one side of the lake, which started moving with rapid speed across the water.

The video soon went viral, garnering more than 1.6 million views and 27,000 shares on the social media platform.

When some people started claiming that it was doctored, Peter decided to post the original footage.

Speaking in an interview, Peter said he recorded the footage over the course of 30 minutes. There was also a second camera propped up on a piece of concrete for the timelapse. He said: “When I stopped filming I checked out my work and I was amazed at how crazy it looked on timelapse.”

The best part about this is that Peter wasn’t even intentionally attempting to capture something so amazing. But we’re so glad he did!
