Ross Rothero-Bourge, 30, gave his mom the surprise of her life when he gifted her with the same car she sold 12 years ago to help him with his music career.

His mum, 63-year-old Lynette Rothero, saw that her son was having a difficult time lugging his drum kit in a trailer behind his battered Renault Megane as he travelled to gigs up and down the country.
“I couldn’t reverse it, it was knackering the car and was probably illegal,” Ross said.
“I was driving it all over the country for gigs and getting myself in all sorts of trouble. I was in desperate need of a van. Mum was worried sick I’d end up having an accident,” he added.
So the loving mum decided to sell her soft-top Ford StreetKa back in 2004 to buy her cash-strapped musician son a van, both for his safety and for her peace of mind.

“She part exchanged her car, which she’d only just bought and was the only one she’d ever owned from new, to get me a van so I’d be safer,” he said.
“Mum bought it in 2004. I’m not sure how long she had it but it was only for a year or two. She was still paying payments on it.”
“She cried when she part-exed it and it absolutely ruined me,” he recalled. “She had to share a car with my grandad after that. I always swore that when I could afford it, I’d make it up to my mum.”
Now a successful sound engineer, Ross said that he promised himself he would buy back the Ford StreetKa as a way of saying thank you for his mom’s selfless sacrifice all those years ago. So he started looking high and low for an exact replica, and managed to nab one on eBay.
“The same colour, same year, same everything,” said Ross.
After Lynette called him, in tears, saying she could no longer afford the MOT on her current car, Ross drove up to her house in Redruth, Cornwall, a few days later in a Ford StreetKa.
Lynette broke down in tears when she saw it. “I’m absolutely delighted. I never thought I’d see my StreetKa again in a million years. I have the best son in the whole wide world,” she said.

Ross added, “Lots of people have been saying what I’ve done is amazing but it’s nothing compared to what my mum’s done for me over the years.”
