Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past week, you probably know by now that last Sunday, France won the World Cup, beating Croatia 4-2 in the final.
With football fever reaching insane heights this season, it’s hard to pull anything off under the watchful eyes of Cup-crazed fans.

So when one Twitter user posted a video of a suspicious-looking woman pocketing a World Cup medal right next to the Russian president just after the explosive final game, people went up in arms.
Shocked fans couldn’t believe someone would have the gall to steal a medal in front of billions of viewers:

The smartly dressed woman, a FIFA official, can be seen whispering something into Russian President’s ear, before casually putting a medal away inside her coat jacket pocket.
The woman gives a wide grin while speaking with other officials, just as if nothing happened.
This woman really did pinch one world cup winners' medal for herself!

What makes this entire fiasco even more weird is the fact that Putin was accused of pulling of something similar years ago. The 65-year-old famous world leader was suspected of swiping a $25,000 Super Bowl ring from the Patriots’ owner Robert Kraft back in 2005.
In an interview with Page Six, Kraft said: “I took out the ring and showed it to [Putin], and he put it on and he goes, ‘I can kill someone with this ring.’”

“I put my hand out and he put it in his pocket, and three KGB guys got around him and walked out,” Kraft added.
But while the 2005 incident still is yet to reach a conclusion, the 2018 FIFA one already did.
The real score isn’t as interesting as everyone’s been painting it out to be: during the awarding ceremony, there were just more medals than needed so the woman, a FIFA assistant, popped the spare onto her person.
FIFA usually gives extra medals to individuals such as staff members or players who did not participate in the final 23-man squad but still contributed towards qualification.
So this woman wasn’t pulling off a heist but merely doing her job? So anticlimactic.
